Kids Found Dead and Buried

Have a 7 year old doe that has kidded 5 times in her life. Last year both kids died as a result of them not coming down the birth canal and having to "go up" and pull them out. The year before one buck was fine but she buried the doe but found it among the hay in her pen and it survived and she cared for both just fine. Today she kidded ( that 20 minutes that we aren't in the barn..of course)...and found 2 fully formed bucks dead and she buried them both under the hay...Tried to rub them and bring them back but no luck. I did find some hair off the side of one buck and a scratch mark as if she dragged it to the corner and buried it. During the many years I have had goats I have accepted that at times the does know something is wrong with the kid..but both and the burying thing ?? Once the kids are on her she is a fine mother. Do I need "intervention" for this doe..or what gives with her..?? Anyone...???

It might be that there is something wrong with them and she knows. I've known cats and dogs to kill or refuse to care for pups and kittens that seemed well. . .I've even had a mother dog, years ago, drown one pup. . . and I really feel like they know or think they know something is wrong. . .things we might not be able to notice, esp. that young. Even if you managed to rescue the doe before, there might have been something she thought was awry, and that is why she acted like that. . .hard to say, really.
I'm sorry you lost both

Sadly it sounds like it is time to cull her.

So sorry for your loss. It could be a sign of nature and they are sick that she is picking up on and reacting to... or it could also be that she has "mental moment" and is confused until they are up and nursing. The only way to know is to intervene the next time and see if the babies end up living to be healthy adults. I am not one to cull because mine are pets and I am too soft hearted about defects. I'm sure that if I was a breeder I would have to look at it differently.

Could it be that she is confusing the kids for afterbirth? and her being a prey animal needs to dispose of the evidence? Maybe instead of straw give her a less deep shaving bed?
