vaccines

I'm getting ready to do cdt, a local lady said to do penicillin as well. ? I thought you only do antibiotics if there is infection? She said it is for vaccine. Didnt really have anything else to add. Now I'm confused.

I've never heard that. Ever.

I only do antibiotics if there is an obvious infection (or would as a preventative after going in for a kid, which thankfully, hasn't happened yet).

I would make sure to have epinephren on hand though, just in case.

I think she was confused.

I do CDT, Lysigin for staph, and J-Vac for coliform.

Never heard of that either...The only thing I can think of is maybe someone thinks that the antibiotic will help prevent the common "knot" that some goats get at the injection site from the injection...

It's 2 CC no matter the weight or age, given twice about 3 weeks apart, and then once yearly.

I think most do the first shot at around 6 weeks, but it probably wouldn't hurt to do it a little earlier if the Moms weren't vaccinated before kidding

A kid's immune system isn't fully developed enough to gain total immunity until eight weeks of age. It is fine to vaccinate before this, just make sure that you have at least two shots after eight weeks and then their yearly booster.

If you vaccinate the dams, the kids get passive immunity from them. I vaccinate my kids at 6, 9, and 12 weeks.
