Black Walnuts?

Are walnuts toxic to goats like they are to horses? I am getting mixed signals from various sites. What do you think?

I'm not sure about the nuts themselves, but our place is covered with black walnuts and I assume that the goats have eaten the leaves and those little stem things that always come off the tree. I've never had any problems with it.

I know are very toxic to horses, as far as goats I would say no, but don`t hold me to that. I know the walnut leaves and nut shucks are a natural wormer, so I think they may be ok. Thanks Marc

We've got several walnut trees in our goat yard and pasture. They eat the leaves, but never touch the nuts themselves. We've had no adverse effects.

No they are not toxic to goats like they are to horses. We have 2 black walnut trees in our pasture and the goats love them. They eat leaves, branches and green nuts off the tree when in season and we've never had anyone get sick on them - except maybe the trees.

Excellent, thank you. We had a couple of goats come down with scours and blame is being placed on the walnuts, but they didn't have this last year and nothing has changed. Pretty sure I am dealing with worm overload, but can find no one to do a fecal. ready to go buy a microscope and do it myself . I do know Sulmet seemed to start improvement after dose #1, diarrhea is thicker now and not water any longer.
