Update on Chloe & babies

Chloe and her babies are doing MUCH better. She will actually stand still (for a few minutes) and let the babies nurse. Last night, the little doeling actually latched on herself! No prying mouth open, inserting teat, etc.

However, Chloe's afterbirth is still there even after putting a small bag of water on it last evening. I tried calling two different friends to see if they had any Oxytocin? but no one called back. How long could this hang before she passes it? If you all feel I should call the vet and go pick up a shot of that stuff please let me know.

I would call a vet. The afterbirth still hanging is going to cause an infection. Now my vet told me the further away from birth the less oxytocin works to help expell the uterine contents and that lute is better that late. I keep both on hand. If you were close to me I would give you some.

Have you been milking her? (I am assuming yes?) That can naturally create contractions...

It's 12:30 pm. The vet just left my place. They did an ultrasound to make sure no more babies were in there and then gave her a shot of ? to make her contract. They said she should pass it today. They also put her on some antibiotics for 7 days. If she don't pass it today, I'm to call tomorrow and they are coming back to "flush her."

So, all is well at the moment. Chloe is eating good and so are the babies. The doeling finds mom and gives her a few knocks in the udder and latches on. What a relief! I was so afraid I had a bottle baby on my hands. Not that I would have minded but that wasn't my plan.

I'd like to send a heart felt "thank you" to all who have chimed in with advice. Us newbies really do need help!

Glad the vet came out! Something just seemed odd about her afterbirth. The antibiotics are a great precaution as well. Good for you for getting it handled well!

And happy to hear about the doeling. Sometimes they just seem slower than they should be!

So glad the kids are nursing & everything seems to be going well, except for the afterbirth. Don't worry just yet, he said sometime today so you still have time. Hopefully she'll pass it before you go to bed so you can sleep good without worrying.
