worming goats ?

Been searching on what to use on my two neutered 100# boys..they are pigmys and about 5 yrs old..i forget what i usually use but its a paste and they hate it but they get anyway....now they started rubbing on the fence like they itch?? could i use ivermectin pour on for cattle and would that get rid of worms and lice if they have any bugs on them?? i know they are starting to shed some to cause of warmer weather...don't have no goat vets around close to ask questions...
and if i can use it on them do i pour it on them??

Thanks for any help....

The only way you can tell if your wormer will work is to fecal test before and after worming. Test, worm every 10 days for 30 days and then test again. Most of Missouri is like Arkansas. Ivermectin doesn't work that well. I use Cydectin or Quest.

If there's a vet around that see's cow's & horses I would think if you take in a fecal sample that he could do it for you for not very much money. Might be good to call a couple that are close to you to find out.

I thought it was normal for them to scratch along the fence?

I use quest for horses. A fecal won't tell her wether they have lice, but isn't this the time of year for it? I think that dewormer given orally takes care of lice but maybe someone else will know for sure. Never use pour on for goats. From what I remember it might kill them, but not real sure. The quest is easy.

Rubbing on the fence is normal goat behavior, especially when they are shedding. That behavior does not necessarily indicate the presence of mites or lice on goats. If you do see lice, there are two types: sucking and chewing. Most of the lice I have had on my goats have been of the chewing variety. An oral or an injectable dewormer will not work on these. If you have chewing lice, use a pyrethrin-based shampoo (Adams flea and tick shampoo works) and give them a bath.
