Baby weights

Saanen second freshener had a 10 pound single buckling last night. Nubian second freshener had a 4 pound single buckling exactly one week ago. Both bred to the same purebred nubian buck.

What could cause the weight differences? I've never had a baby so tiny before - usually they are 8 - 10 pounds, whether singles or twins. They've been eating the same thing all winter, same pen, same pasture, etc.

It just seemed so odd. Both little guys are quite healthy (and up for grabs if someone is looking for one), just a wide difference in weights. Any thoughts?

Swiss breeds generally do have larger kids than Nubians....so that is probably part of it. For my Alpines, 8-10 lb kids are the normal. I haven't kidded out enough Saanens to know...but hearing from others they also have larger kids.
