Help Appreciated Please

I just noticed today a growth had formed on my 5 yo Spanish female and she has a couple of "bald" spots. It hasn't been there long and not sure what could be causing it. Help would be appreciated if anyone has any ideas. I am not sure what other info to give.

She is not pregnant. Coastal always available. Fresh grasses on weekends. Goat minerals out all the time......

Thanks in advance.

This looks like bottle jaw... It is mainly under the jaw, not on the side, correct? Soft or hard? It's difficultto tell from pictures. Bottle jaw happens normally in young kids, it's a soft, tissue swelling due to worm overload. When was she wormed last, and with what? Did you do fecals to see if it was effective/appropriate?

Or, it could be a salivary gland swelling/infection. Or, an infected tooth or piece of hay lodged in gums that got infected. In which case, you will likely need to have a vet look at it.

It does NOT look like it's a normal place for CL, thank goodness.

It is soft. And on the bottom side of her jaw. I wormed them today. Still trying to catch up on stuff. I used Safeguard. It is oral and they did not prefer it of course. I am not sure when the last time they were wormed was. I haven't had complete care of them for long.

Is there a good injectable wormer I can get?

Safeguard is not effective against many of the goat worms, as it has been overused and the worms are immune.

You might want to get a fecal test done and then deworm.

Cydectin used orally works well for us and is the only wormer recommended by our vet.

Don't know what folks use in your part of the country but most of us use either Ivermectin or Cydectin, all wormers are given to the goats orally even if it says injectable.

A fecal test would be very helpful & most vets will do it for just a small amount. Then you'll know exactly what kind of worm your dealing with for sure.
Safeguard really doesn't work in most places like Alice said.
