Lost the kid :(

Have just been to check on them - Nutmeg's kid is dead.

She herself is looking a little brighter, and she did have a drink of warm water this morning. Not looking so tense and in pain. Still not eating though.

But the baby is gone - better go now and collect DD and tell her about it.

- what on earth is going on - we lost the other newborn "Surprise" this morning. Was looking a little "quiet" yesterday evening. Got there this morning and he was a sgood as dead! Brought him home, tried to warm him up and get some milk into him, but he died on us

that's two babies in two days. Both in the same pen. The other two babies are 12 days and 6 days old and are big, strong sturdy babes!!

To say I am not happy is an understatement - now for a lot of detective work to see what went wrong so I can see if I can correct it for next time. At least that should be it for this year now - I hav eone more who hasn't kidded yet, but I don't expect she will (she failed to come in kid the last two years so I have no great expectations from her this year!)

AARGH

That's so sad, Hoggie. I'm sorry for your losses and troubles.

When I have "sedate" or "quiet" new kids here, I worry, and give them 1/4 to 1/2cc BO-SE. But I'm not sure if you're able to get that?

I hope your other doe IS in kid, and comes through for you.

Dang, sorry. Hope you find out what's going on. Goats seem to have a somewhat steep learning curve. I sold most of mine one year because they just weren't doing well, and I had no idea why. Now I know about copper, everyone is doing much better!
