cl question

I would normaly just call my vet and ask but I hope she is on maternity leave at this moment. Ill ask her FIL next week when I pick up my calfs from him. OK ANY WHOOOO

Got 2 new boys. Been giving the cl,cdt vacination to them tonight they got their second shot. WHEN can I test and their teiter be accurate. they are about 6 weeks old. I want to test for cl, cae and jones.

Dont want to bug my vet knowing her. she would be in labor and take my call.

I want as accurate as possible. I dont want to cull unless I have to.

since you vaccinated for cl, you can ditch the testing, will never be accurate. may i ask what was the reason to do so?

I purchased 4 goats and told they were clean. a week later my ds show goat developed a lump. Then the seller admitted they have cl. They were is quarneteen as the new boys were and are. But were subjected to my dd (from same sellers) bottle baby girl. SO I got the shots and started my girls on it. JUST in case. I try so very hard to keep it clean but we have cats and mice. The cl lump started to drain out the ear they day we got ride of the girl. She was in our cattle hauler when it started to leak.
I need the new boys. Vet said xxx amount of days after the vacinations and we can get a more accurate teiter.

These boy were from another farm than the seller that sold the girl goats

i'm so sorry this happened to you.
i guess in your situation it is best to vaccinate for now.
i assume this are boer goats?
you can test when the kids are 6 months old. you probably will get a low titer reading for cl, not truly negative.
unfortunately the cl vaccine is not 100% and you have to watch for abscess.
don't let the goats where the last abscess drained. can you burn it?
you need to clean and desinfect the cattle hauler very thoroughly bevore you can transport any goats in there.
the bacteria will stay active for several months.
uc-davis would be a helpfull partner to prevent infection. you might want to call them.

Very sorry a seller did this to you. We had a CL scare about a month ago, and fortunatly, it was not CL when the results came back a few weeks ago. I don't know anything about the vaccine, but I think I would make sure I cleaned to the best of my ability the trailer and any other areas exposed. I really have no experience in this, but hopefully, the vaccines work for you.

These are dairy goats. We have cleaned very well and my vet works with uc davis. We are burning everything that cannot be bleached and lyme white washed. We will be burning the isolation barn due to the one goat gave birth in there. The infected goats had no access to my goats.

The boys will continue to be isolated for the next year. If I see signs then they wil be culled.

Sounds like you're doing what you need to. Hate you're having to deal with all that due to another breeder lying - how sad is that?
