Selenium deficiency? How are your soil levels? If low, do you BoSe?

WOW TRIPLETS. I know this is pretty common for goats but thats just a lot of work there and bounce back to normal right after. Just wonder if she might have strained something during the birth?
I sounds like you did everything you were suppose to, she may have not passed the placenta's right away since her uterus was "exhausted and flabby" bout the only way I can decribe it.
Maybe some doe's bounce back quicker than others.. ?
I hope she gets better soon.

are you sure she cleaned out properly? if in pain she might has an uterine infection? how does her discharge look like? bad smell? no kid left inside?
sometimes it takes a while until they are back on theit pastern.
do you have the need of her copper requirement covered?
low in copper and she can be low in her pastern too.

Yes Im wondering if she's not totally cleaned out too.
If her behind smells like a slaughter house she hasnt cleaned out...even a few pieces left in there can cause infection.
If you can, get her a lavaoge (fancy name for douche) & I would put her on a good week of Pen G.
Anybody know how to give one?

Hello, this is my goat. My friend posted for me earlier.
Her discharge is very minimal and is normal color. No bad smell. She was given a Bo-Se shot and CD&T before breeding and then again 3 weeks before her due date. Copper I am not sure about being low. She is showing no other signs of copper deficiency. They have access to the Manna Pro goat minerals and they get supplemented with the manna pro Goat Balancer. They also have access to Kelp. Today will be the 4th day of using 4cc Bio-Mycin on her. Should I go ahead start her on Pen G? Her birthing was fast and furious. She is a two year old first freshener. Her birthing started at 8:20 and was over and done with at 8:39. Triplets, 6.6 lbs, 8.10 lbs, 9.3 lbs., and then the placenta started coming right out after that. It just hung there for a couple of days.

do you mean uterine flush?
you can do this only if cervix is still open. a vaginal flush isn't doing any good as the possible infection is in the uterus.

biomycin belongs to the group of tertacyclines and should not be given together with penicillin. can you get naxcel or excenel from your vet?

I can probably pick it up from my vet. I will call and see. Just checked to see if I happened to have some, I have a couple syringes of Dex but not the others.

For the rear pasterns: Bo-Se, vitamin E, fresh browse and time.
The groaning - this would give me great cause for concern. Excenel/Naxcel can cross the uterus if she does have a uterine infection. How is her temperature now?
Cervix is closed now, so you can't do a uterine flush - sterile water and Biomyicin, not a people douche.

Can I give Bo-Se again since she had one almost 4 weeks ago? We are cutting a variety of different branches for them to eat. After milking we take her over to some bushes and trees and she just nibbles. Temp is normal, 102.6. (just checked).

yes you can give bo-se again.
remember, doe not cleaning out properly (and weak in her pastern) can be a sign of copper deficiency even if you do not see discoloration of her coat.
you might want to read on saanendoah.com about copper requirements for goats.
btw. this breeder is in california too

Thank you! I have learned something new today! I have called my vet and we have an appt. 1st thing in the morning. He says I have done everything right so far, but you all are right and she probably needs Exxenel. He just wants to see her and make sure nothing else is going on and to see how dire her situation is.
Thanks again to all of you. I'll let you all know what he says tomorrow.

Just got back from the vets with my goat and he gave her a dose of Lutalyse and a dose of baytril. I have two more doses of each to give her. After I made the apt. yesterday, she started eating last night. So I think she is on the road to recovery. Oh, he also said to give another dose of Bo-Se and I was able to tell him it was already done :-) Thanks everyone!
