Preemies!!

I really don't know what to say, but I feel like I need to say something...

This morning one of our FF's, Camo failed to come up for feeding time. Checked on her and she was in the shed, standing up, but not in any apparent distress. Her udder looked like it had dropped....but that isn't right, she is 3 weeks early. The buck was kept isolated until Oct 15th, SB March 15th at the earliest. She was bred on the 21st IIRC.

Came back about an hour later and there were 2 kids on the floor. Dead. They still look premature. I don't think they were ever alive. I still feel like maybe I should have been there. I really hate losing kids!!

I'm sorry for your loss, Adron. Had a similar experience two years ago here. Two weeks premature. Heartbreaking.

I would think there would be nothing at all you could have done. 3 weeks is a tremendous prematurity in a goat kid. I'm sorry!

Thanks All!! She is up, around, eating, drinking and bleating a little bit. Kind of a questioning bleat. Kinda like she knows something is different, but not what. Oh well, such is life. She will be fine in a couple of days.

Sorry for your loss.

Do you have any idea or clue why it happened?
Did she get into anything in the last few weeks?
is there a possibility of Chlamydia? FF will lose their first kids then build a resistance to it.

So sorry about the kids. Nothing you could have done, I agree witht the others, 3 weeks is too early. She is bleating a little for her kids, she's calling them. Maybe she got butted by another goat? Just guessing but anyways not your fault but that helpless feeling is terrible I know. Try not to beat yourself up though.
