I wish

I wish every doe had the same exact symptoms of impending kidding! I have a 2 year old pregnant doe. I bought her in December. The past 2 weeks her belly has doubled in size, she even has the pregnant waddle! It's kind of funny to watch. Anyway, she is very quiet, I think I've only heard her talk a couple times, and both those times were within the past couple days. She is the leader of the group. Some days lately she has been very friendly with me, others, back to her normal standoffish self. I try to feel her ligs, I think they are looser. One question I have is do their ligs all feel the same when not going into labor? Will feeling another's ligs then hers tell me anything?

For me ligs are a tough one. Yes it would be helpful to have another goat to compare with. For me, it seemed like Gretta's ligs would be gone...and then come back! But I'm afraid that I may have been doing it wrong. I don't know. But I would try it for sure and compare to another goat that is not pregnant. I didn't have that when Gretta was driving me crazy lol! I know how you feel..the waiting and wondering is pure torture!!

I always compare with another goat closely and hope I am right. I did it once for a friend about a week ago, I said "Her ligs are pretty close to gone, she'll probably kid within the next couple of days..." sure enough, three days later, she kidded. Yay!

Probably luck. Haha

my pregnant girl's ligs are getting softer, I can easily get my fingers around pretty good, at least I think I'm doing it right. anyway, I compared her to my doe that kidded a couple months ago, big difference between the two.
about how long on average does it take to kid once the ligs start to go? Her ligs have been changing for a couple weeks now, unless of course I'm doing it wrong

When I have someone here & I'm teaching them to feel ligaments.. I have them feel LOTS of the does.. not all ligaments feel the same (or will they be located exactly the same place/depth on every doe).. to me they feel like small cables.. nice & taunt before kidding.. looser, more bouncy as they get closer.. if you feel them everyday, you may not be able to tell when they are *magically* gone.but you'll know they are changing and you are getting close..(once completely gone.. for my girls, we'll have babies in less then 24 hours).. many will have a *broken* look to their tail, once the ligs are gone. It will hang down floopy and be very easy to move her whole tail head area. it will wiggle sort of loose in your hand.. (be gentle if you *wiggle* her) ... (look at her udder too.. for me it's teats, not the udder it's self. Once those teats fill in enough to look full & pointy.. again.. you are getting close).. Has she *dropped*? I have does due to kid on tues & wed. (day 150 which is the most *usual* day to kid from my does)... both those girls are still big & round... beach balls on tooth picks LOL... neither have dropped quite yet..I expect them to be shaped different tomorrow. Once they drop they will look a bit hollow in the flanks with all most of the baby belly hanging lower, more down underneath.. it is nerve wracking to not have a clue as to when a doe is due.. just keep watching her for signs.. (I promise you, it gets easier the more pregnant moms you spend time with.. you'll become an *expect* due date predictor in no time)

thanks, some times she looks like she dropped, then the next time I see her she looks like she did the day before. She doesnt have that hollow look to her yet. Also, had a very small amount of goo a couple weeks ago, none since then. she does look a bit swollen though.

Right now I have a nubian doe on day 150, leaking goo for 2 weeks; her ligs have come and gone for 2 weeks. Last night I could barely feel them, today they are there again, not tight but still there
For everyone else it has been easy to tell, on her I can't tell.
