Filling a void way to soon?

This goat was born at the exact same time my Kaz died.

He wouldn't, in anyway, be a replacement. I just don't think I can stand to be without a goat like Kaz, that loves me, and follows me around...

Saneens are great pack animals and he comes from a good breeder. Is it just to soon to go out and get a new bottle baby? It's just so weird that he was born at the exact same time Kaz died...

I am so sorry about Kaz! Sometimes the way to mend a broken heart is to fill it with something else and then sometimes it is just too painful. That sure is a cute little feller and Saanens are so laid back, I bet he would make a great pack animal....

It won't replace Kaz, but I say, go for it! You aren't really replacing him-- you just need someone to love on and to be your pack goat.

I think it's sorta symbolic, in some way. Especially since he's a Saanen, and you want a pack wether... it fits nicely.

Of course he couldn't replace your Kaz. But he could be a new friend, a way to start healing from your loss.

I think, that if you think you can give him the care he deserves even though you are grieving, you should get him.

Note: if you can post pics of him from the side, maybe there are some here who could tell if he has the structure a pack goat needs. I personally can never tell what they will grow up to be like when they are babies, but some people here might have an idea. From the pic, his front feet look a little turned out. But of course, he's very young. And you say he's from a good breeder, so he's probably fine.

Plus, he's just so cute. I am sorry about Kaz, though. He did seem a little delicate for a goat, maybe this fellow will be stronger.

To soon? That is only a story that you can know yourself, it sounds like you need this little guy and perhaps he was sent to you at the exact time that Kaz was called away so that you would feel that there is a connection and it will be easier for you to bond with him. We will all miss Kaz but I think his time of teaching us was done and he is now getting ready for his next adventure

Oh, no!

Saanens are my very favorite breed. There is something awesomely calm and sweet-natured about them and the wethers can indeed grow quite big. I have a Saanen wether ("Gus"), as well as a Saanen/Nubian wether ("Flop").

If you can get him, please do. If not him, will there be others available?

As far as a "replacement" for the one you lost? No - but certainly someone else to love and focus your attention on.

I heard today that someone will be bringing Saanen kids to the agricultural swap meet I participate in next Saturday. I think I'm in trouble.

Okay, turns out the guy who was buying him thought he was a different breed or something and pulled out of the sale. Now I just have to convince my mom, who is afraid of losing another animal. She is moving to California without me though, so I don't think she would even have time to attach.

I just think I really need this little guy. The women said he took 4 hours of pushing to get out over the same time that my little guy was dying.

I think I met to have him... what are the chances my little guy would unexpectedly die and then the perfect pack goat wether would be born and available for sale a half an hour later and some one would be about to buy him but pull out of the sale last minute? I think without him I am bound to spiral into a depression, I always do when I lose an animal and don't have anything to distract me from the loss.

Oh and he is 1/4 saneen, 1/4 alpine and 1/2 oberhalsi, he has dominant coloring from the buck saneen, which is why they were calling him saneen mix. They said they breed purposely this way for milking goat and then a buckling was born. They don't get kids for another month and want him gone ASAP becuase they don't want him to be alone for long.

I also need to make sure I have a source of milk, and I think I do, but I would have to be certain, my goats don't kid until the spring, but I still have a few gallons of frozen goat milk left over from last fall...

Well my mom reluctantly gave me permission if it's really what I want... so as long as I have a supply of milk I can have him

Congratulations! You can always use whole cow milk from the store. It works fine and they grow well on it.

Just buy whole cow's milk from the grocery store. That is what I am feeding my current 5 pita bottle kids. With only one kid you will not be going through a gallon of milk a day like I am My others are feeding their kids and there is not enough left to feed 5 more kids. More time and work for me to try to get some.

I was going to say that it depends on you if it is too soon. I made that mistake once when my cat passed away I got a kitten within 2 weeks and I ended up not liking her. I felt bad for her so I re-homed her, I just could not stand to look at her and did not really want to pet her.
But since the other buyer backed out and you said it would take your mind off Kaz I say it was meant to be

Well, I have free fresh cow's milk.

My mom is still really against it even though I have her permission. She says if another goat gets sick then she won't want to take it to the vet again but she can't just watch it die either. How often does it really happen that an animal is so sick you need to take it to the vet? Most of the time we do all our own vetwork, even when an animal is really sick... I might have a 1000$ grant coming in from our Farm Bureau, and I should be able to start making money with my goats this summer to pay for future emergencies; and I plan on paying her back for Kaz's bill.
