Smile Vaccinating for udder health

I'd like to see how many of you out there are vaccinating, or not, for Staph (Lysigin) and e. coli (J-Vac).

What are your ups and downs? Does it work for you- or not? Stuff like that.....

Have used the Lysigin for several years.

Just started with the J-Vac.

UGA is doing a study with the goats at FVSU and the vaccine for Staph A. I'm trying to remember the name of the professor who is in charge of that study. Apparently last year they found a reduction in all mastitis from staph, not just staph A.

This is the first I've heard of this. Can anyone elaborate? Thanks!

My older LaMancha doe, Princess, had an ugly case of Staph on the skin of her udder. It looked like fire ant bites at first, than flat sores. Treated with chlorhexadine and started vaccinating with Lysigin ( on Vicki's recommendation.) No more problems in any of the does.

My herd queen, Alpine, named Orange, got coliform mastitis last year. Treated it very aggressively with a variety of things, infusion, oral Vitamin C, herbs, etc., and started vaccinating with J-Vac. The folks at the mastitis clinic said normally coliform kills quickly, so I was lucky to save this doe.

I just vaccinated the goats and my two heifer calves with lysigin last month. None of the goats have freshened yet so no exp on if it works or not. Only thing I noticed it that the goats could care less when they got their vaccine and booster.......and the cows acted like we had just stabbed them. I suspect this says a lot more about my spoiled heifer calves than it does that vaccine!
