Update on udder problem

I posted last month about my doe who freshened but had no milk in one side of her udder. The other side had bled if I tried to milk it. I was considering putting her down, but as she never exhibited any signs of discomfort or pain, I decided to give her some time. I treated that side with Today, but saw no improvement. I believe that when she got out of her pen into the calf pen, a few weeks before kidding, she may have been kicked in the udder(?). I really don't know, but it feels like there is scar tissue in the teat. Anyway, that side has shrunk down, and she still has no signs of discomfort, and is very comfortable with me handling it. She is milking wonderfully from the good side, giving about as much as one of my two-teated does. I don't believe the one side will ever be functional, so may need to get it removed at some point in the future.

I do know that I've read of cows who have 'lost a quarter' and are still great milkers. If she's not in pain with it, then I see no reason why she can't have a good productive life! Kudoes to you for being patient with the situation-- seems like you are handling it beautifully

I have a doe who only produces on one side. I never thought to remove the other side. It just hangs there.
