what age for meat wethers?

What age are meat wethers usually marketed?

Tell me anything: breeds, feeds, location, etc.

I put mine up for sale at about 40-60 lbs. from my reading that is what most want and they seem to sell well. just a few every year to sell though so I am no market expert

I am definately no meat market expert becuase we don't generally have any left to need butchering. We used to have pygmies & ended up with 2 wethers extra one year & had them butchered at 9 months of age. They each were roughly 55 pounds live weight if that helps. The meat I thought was very good & tender.

Depends on the time of year, the breed, lots of factors.
I've usually been told 60-80 pounds liveweight. They prefer a kid just weaned. They like 50 pounders, too.
They do like our dairy wethers at the Livestock Auction we ship to. Thankfully, they weigh the goats so the buyers know just how heavy those dairy wethers are. They tend to bring more per pound than our Boer cross wethers.
Some holidays want a larger goat, some a smaller baby pulled off it's mother.
We used to sell in January (so were shipping 10-13 month olds). We sold some 6-8 month olds this year and did well. We'll probably stick to taht and just breed some Boers so we have that range in January. We shipped some a the middle of January and did quite well even though they were the last of the goats we had. They had been held back from previous shipments due to lack of size.
Ours are sent just into PA.

Mid January the sale prices were way up. All goats. I came home and googled Mexican Holidays, and sure enough there was a biggie, mid-Jan.
Other than that, an old guy at the sale barn once told me get them to over 40 lbs before selling.
