Unhappy Over burned Pygmies, comment.

After reading the original post I did a search on disbudding goats. One of the results has a man explaining that the burned ring should be a deep copper color or white. A white ring means the burn has reached the skull. We burn to a white ring when doing bucklings since they tend to grow scurs more easily.

Reading something like this might be why he burned so long and with too big an instrument. All the info on the net is not accurate or good or possibly even true.

Another youtube video looked for all the world like they were heating up a lug nut wrench to burn the hornbud. I didn't have the sound on because I didn't want to upset my kids with the sound of crying baby goats, so I couldn't hear what the folks were saying.

I only wish everyone researched everything as well as goat mommies do! (That would be us )!

Since there are so many different opinions out there it is hard to know what to do at times. So something like disbudding should be taught by someone with experience with goats. I don't think reading an article or watching a video is the best way to go about learning how to do something that could easily fry brains and eyeballs if done wrong.
Maybe if someone with experience doing it with calves could then research to find out what the difference with equipment and timing would be with a baby goat.

A teacher especially you would think would want to make sure HE KNEW what he was doing before trying to teach someone else. There are young people trying to learn from this man & probly think he's just incredible at this point & that's scarey. I worry how many other baby goats are going to turn out the same from the hands of that so called teacher or his young students.

I just can't imagine hurting little innocent animals to make myself look like a BigShot to my students. I think it sounds like he didn't want to admit there was something he didn't know so he went ahead with the disbudding before finding out how to properly take care of burning little bitty pygmy goats!
