very sick goat-Need help Asap!

I have a female goat. I wormed her and about a week or so later she began to bleed from her vagina as if she had miscarried or given birth. The wormer i gave her was safe for pregnant does. She bled for about a week or so with it continually tapering off. We found no sign of the baby in the pasture. Then Wednesday night we found her down on all fours. She had a high fever. We brought her in and gave her penicillian, b complex and red cell and have continued this regimen every six hours. She fell over on her side and has been there ever since. We have given her two doses o Dex as well. There has been no improvement except for the fever lowered. Please help. I don't know what else to do. Her front legs are paralyzed but she is still kicking with her back ones.

How is her capillary refill? Press finger on her gums and count how many seconds it takes to go from white to pink.

Sounds like she lost the kid/kids and is having bleeding complications. I don't deworm a pregnant doe no matter what the dewormer says. Dewormer is poison.

Is she eating at all? Drinking water? Peeing, pooing?

I'm thinking, based on what you've posted, I'd put this goat down.

I really wish I could tell you what to do but I'm sure someone with more experience in a goat with these symptoms will help soon.

They will probly want to know what you wormed her with though since you didn't say.

I sure hope she makes it but I sure feel bad for her & you. It does sound like she miscarried though, When was she bred?

It sounds to me like your doe had some serious pregnancy complications and she did not clean out all the way when she aborted. She may have a dead kid in there. It's vet time if you want to try and save her.

It takes about 3 seconds for her gum to turn back pink once pressed on. She is pooping and peeing fine. No diahrea. She eat the green stuff i give her excitedly and she drank 2 quarts f electrolytes yesterday while i held her head up. If I don't get any answers here, i have no choice but to put her down with no improvement.

I worm does after they have given birth, not while pregnant. Was she even pregnant?
Do you have a more broad spectrum anitbiotic?

When they go down like that the outlook is grim. I had one go down and we fought for 12 hours but she never got back up. Her rumen had shut down, her temp was low not high.

You posted when I did about the vet and her eating. Are you hearing gut sounds? Is she bringing up cud?

That is too long... it should only take 1 second. She is most likely in shock. Are her gums fairly pink or are they pale? If she bled for a week, she may have lost a lot of blood. Offer some molassas in warm water to boost her sugars. Keep her warm... if she doesn't improve by the end of the day, I'd put her down... it sounds like she is in pretty rough shape

I have given her molasses water from the beginning and yes her gums are pale. There are gut sounds. I don't really know for sure if she was pregnant. I did my wormer rounds but I suspected she was or would be as she had a baby last april and i knew she was done nursing. Her belly seems more swollen today. I am thinking she must have a dead kid inside but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything before i had her put down. She isn't taking fluids today.

She weighs 40-50 lbs. I gave her safe-guard dewormer. 1.2 ml-2 ml. We gave her 3cc of Dex yesterday at noon and 2 cc this morning at 6.

Lute?

If she's lying on her side prop her up with some hay bales.

Lute would, if there is a dead kid inside. Unless it is positioned wrong and stuck in the canal. Had that happen once and no amount of pushing or pulling worked. C-section on a Sunday of course

Is this goat a pygmy? Find a non-squismish person with tiny hands and see if they can get in there and feel for a kid/kids. If she is not dilated not sure how far in you can get, if the cervix is closed you will hit into that and not get past it.

How long have you had this goat? Do you have a buck running wth her? If so what breed is he?

2cc lutyulase IM and then once she dialates, go in to help her deliver the kid(s) and give oxytocin to help her clean out. After this, she'll need her uterus flushed with biomycin or LA22 5cc mixed with 30 cc sterile water for the infection. There's a good chance that even if you can save her, she may be sterile from now on.

I really don't know what kind of goat she is. She is medium in size and she runs with our french alpine male and has already had one of his kids. She has been with us 2 years and we have had goats for at least 3 years. We had a similar sickness happen to a male goat about 6 months ago and several of our neighbors had the same illness take several of thiers at the same time.

Her milk sacs are dry and do not look like the utters of a pregnant or newly delivered goat.

What is lute and where would you find it? Would it hurt her if she is not pregnant?

If this happened to your male goat and your neighbor's goats I doubt it is from pregnancy. Lute is available only from a vet and it is not harmful to your doe. If she is not pregnant it would bring her into heat under normal circumstances.

What did they do when their goats got sick? How did they treat it?
What was the outcome?

I would stop thinking in the terms of pregnancy if this happened to others around you and especially a male goat. Did a vet see any of those other goats? If they did I would ask your neighbor what the diagnosis was.
