I need HELP Bad PLEASE
My Alpine doe was fine one day and the next day she was down. What I'm saying is she can't get off her back in. She wants to be can't, My husband helped me get her up one day on a sort of belt under her. She was pregnant and she had 2 baby boys yesterday. No trouble at all. She also sort of turns to let them suck. Also she had them and cleaned all by herself. I guess she told? them to get on their knees to suck, cause that is what they do. The little boys are fine. Oh, she has been down a week.
I have never had this happen before. I don't know what to do, she is 9 years old an my favorate(my first). I know the vets around know less than I do. They say don't know. Please help me if you can.

What's her temp?
Did she have BoSe?
Do you supplement with copper?
Do you have thiamine to give by injection?
What are you feeding?
Where do you live?
Edited to add: You must get this goat up, several times a day, for the circulation in her legs and to prevent pneumonia. You might have to hook up some sort of sling to get her up and keep her up for a period of time. If she's been down a week, your window of opportunity to fix this is getting small.

Quick note no time
CMPK calcium and molasses for energy increase her feedings several times a day high energy type feeds gradual change, lots of water hay add alphahla to diet
With no details as requested by AliceinTx my guess either Hypocalcemia ketosis/preg.toxemia her temp is fery important for diagnosis hard to help withoutit.
Yes get her up, switch sides often, sometimes if down too long they dont *think* they cang et up but if you help they realize they can. Not saying thisis it but I always check. have meds on hand for pneumonia as it oftenoccurs as secondary when they are donw. treat aggresively

Is she laying on her back? Side? If so I would position some bales to hold her on her belly and like HF said make her move.

http://fiascofarm.com/goats/ketosis.htm
I lost an older doe last year after she went down following kidding triplets. I believe that it was a calcium deficiency, and she was ketotic. I did not catch the earlier signs and treat quickly enough because I was sick myself at the time.
I hope you have better luck with yours. This needs to be treated asap.

she needs glucose
sounds like ketosis to me
I would feed that gal molasses, force some propolyne glycol and pray
when they are that far gone and down---you have little time to get them saved
www.tennesseemeatgoats.com has all info you could ever need on every single aspect of handling a goat thru its life....articles on all---like Ketosis etc
visit the site on right that says Articles on Nutrition/Health Management. It is priceless.---------it is best to flush before kidding time and that includes sweet feed type feeds to help the doe feed those inside kids. they are super tacking on her system.
Also 9 years old is very old for breeding at this point. Grazing animals live and die fast. 9 is very old. If you truly want her as a pet, then don't breed again.

I agree it sounds like Calcium Deficiency, If she were mine I would get the CMPK in to her right away.
I would be trying everything I could think of to get her to eat & drink, molasses in her water, propylene glycol, etc. If she's been down for a week she really needs help & fast.
I sure hope you can save her, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the both of you!

Get the CMPK not orally kind. Get the injectable. That what I would use. But I would give her alfalfa pellets..

I have took temp 103. I thought the little babys had enough an they are so week I think they will not make it. I tried the best I could with them. I have gave them her milk making sure they both had some first milk, but, I don't have any idea the will make it.
The mom is setting up and she trys to get up but can't. Yes, my husband gets her up for me several times a day. I'll go back out and see what's happening now that Have got me some coffee. Bad storm here today so it will bring the real cold in. I'm in Ms.

I do not know about the doe but I would bring the boys inside and start bottle feeding them whole cow's milk if you want to save them. I raised quite a few bottle babies on whole cow's milk straight from the grocery store. Never used replacer, but if it is all you have them use it. If you have goat's milk even better.
Good Luck

Get the babies warm up very well. U can feel inside of their mouth. If it is feel cool or cold. Then You need take them inside and warm them up really well and give them warm milk for them to drink. And watch them closely.

Yes, get the babies in and just bottlefeed whole milk, so if you loose the mom you don't loose them, and when her like that, I wouldn't try to milk her, I would go out and express enough to keep her comfortable.

I would bring the kids inside and make sure they warm up.
Do you have any kind of calcium you can give her?

She may have a bad case of arthritis as an old doe in the cold. A blanket would help, and the ketosis fluids. Her maternal stores are way down what with pushing out those kids and she needs some very quick energy and lots of it- if you have a bit of alfalfa, that would also be very good for her .

How's she doing tonight?
If those kids are weak consider tubing them, when they are warm of course.

I really hope your doe is improving! I hope you will update us on what you've done and how she is.
And to all those who have responded.... thank you! We are expecting kids in the next month and I really benefit from all the experienced folks here - I want to be as prepared as possible.

I just want to second the thiamine injections...cannot hurt, might help. I had a doe down for a very long time, and learned that you must position them with old pillows, hay bales, whatever, so they are not flat out on their sides. I wish you luck, please keep us updated.

Sorry for not comming back sooner. Vet says there is nothing can be done.
She didn't make it or the babys either. Said they were born too soon.
Thanks so much all. I'm so heart broken.
