lump under jaw in boer doe.

Our boer doe (about 5 yrs old) has a ltttle smaller than golf ball sized lump under her jaw on the right side. Any ideas what it could be before I call the vet. She kidded in early sept and were going to breed her in the next month.

Thanks,
Hayzor

There are many things it could be...hopefully it's not CL. See the sticky above and read up on it. It could be a sticker, infected tooth, bug bite...lots of things.

a pic would be good.

is it more under the ear or the underside or side of the jaw near the teeth. what is its "feel" hard, soft etc....does it feel like it is full of watery fluid, hard bonelike material, or "mushable" firm as if it were full of thick but pliable substance?

Iodine deficiency in goats is a disease of the thyroid gland. Under the chin behind the larynx on the front of neck, the thyroid gland enlarges to form a goiter when the goat is deficient in iodine. A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland.

Bottle jaw appears directly under the chin. large swelling.

CL abscesses occur at lymph glands and when located in the neck area will be under an ear, downward towards the chest, or along the jaw line.
