Question newby in need of info

Hey I have an alpine doe that I thought was too late to breed. She was penned with a ram and a buck. Saturday the ram started mounting her. We moved the Ram out and left the buck to do his job. He seemingly had. Today I notice she has a thick bloody discharge. Does this mean the pregnacy didn't take?? Please help. Thanks

I am guessing goat as they said Alpine.
Maybe the ram injured her? Was this the only time she was in with them?

Talking about goats. We have two ewes about to "lamb" and I have alot on my mind lately She has been penned with the buck and ram for about 3 weeks and has been with the ram and ewes long term in the past. The discharge is over and she is alert and eating well. I suppose I just have to wait and see what happens? Thanks for posting everyone.

If she were mine I think I'd abort her. A ram can breed a doe, but the kids/lambs are often aborted or die at birth. I don't think I'd want to wait possibly 5 months to find out, then have to wait for fall breeding season with a barren doe if the breeding was a cross.

I'd abort her then re-breed to the buck. In our area we have about another month before breeding season ends, so take your normal breeding season into consideration before making a choice like this.

How do I know what my normal breeding season is. I have always read that the breeding season is from august to december for all goats. Secondly how would one go about aborting a doe?

Lutylose (from your vet) 2cc IM on day 11 after breeding. She should cycle at least once soon afterwards.

Worse case your breeding season is probably similar to mine or even longer the furthr south you go. Also some breeds are year-round (but not in colder regions like in my area NE. Here even my pygmies didn't cycle year round, just my experiences).
