Is this a miscarriage?

Have a doe who shouldn't be due until mid February at the soonest. Yesterday she had a large amount of discharge. As in, if she was a woman, it looked like her water broke. As far as I know there weren't any unplanned breeding and the boys are on the other side of our property, so it is pretty unlikely. I didn't see any signs of fetal parts anywhere. The ground was covered in snow, so it would have been pretty obvious and I didn't see anything unusual in the small barn area.

What do you think miscarriage or nothing?

I'm not sure what to say. I hope someone else with lots more experience chimes in soon, and helps to answer your question and ease your mind.

Okay, so two days after she looks like there was a 1/12 foot long rope thing that came out. Looked a little like after birth stuff.

I'm guessing she miscarried, but why? Does it sound like a miscarriage to anyone else?

It does sound like one, but I'm not expert at all! Lots of things can cause that - I've heard even a really hard hit from another goat, but others say that's not possible. Perhaps there was something wrong with the baby(ies) and the body decided to abort early?

You might need to make sure everything is out of her uterus. I've never dealt with this, but I know that a retained placenta can be a really bad thing so it seems likely that a miscarriage could cause the same problems if anything was left inside. I'm not even sure what you can do. Do you have a good goat vet in the area?
