Older Doe's Cycles?

I have an older doe. I'm pretty sure she's in her teens. She's given me some lovely doelings from past kiddings, and I really don't need her to be bred any more. She can just be a Grand Mammy.

Here's my question. Like clockwork, every 21 days, she seems to cycle. As she always has before, she becomes vocal, tail wags, and she schmoozes the buck. She's been with three different bucks, and none of them have serviced her.

They do show an interest, with the smelling and all, but it does not go beyond that.

Is it possible the bucks sense that she's not "really" cycling, and they just don't waste their time on the process with her?

Just wondering .. . . .

Hmmm...I don't know that I've seen many a male goat turn down a chance to service a lady - whether she wanted it or not!!!

But since you've seen this happen with 3 bucks, I guess it's not just that the buck is off.

No clue! Our young buck hardly cares what critter is in his pen during rut - he WILL mate with it (you should see him go nuts when the ewes are moved past his pen - he has NO qualms about interspecies mating! )

I have to laugh, as you mentioned interspecies mating! One of my bucks has been trying to get the deer to come to him. A few does do hang around his pen, but they haven't given him a chance to "prove" himself with them
