What to plant?

I am getting a few goats next spring and would like to plant about an acre of greenery in an area that is bare now. What would be the best crop to plant?
I'd like something fast growing, also when would be the best time to plant it?

If you plant it in alfafa/ grass mix then they would have browse all summer & you wouldn't have to replant it for a few years I don't think.
Are you talking about fencing the area for them to roam in all summer? Only thing that stuff needs to be planted in the fall & it might frow faster than they keep it eaten but you could always cut some, dry it & put it in the barn for hay later?
