Drying off a Pygmy doe

Just curious, as we decided to leave the kid on the mom, but if you need to dry off a non-dairy animal, like a Pygmy, with minimal production, can you just remove the kid and allow her to try up or do you need to milk enough to relieve pressure and keep her comfortable OR we I have needed to actually milk her out and slowly, over the course of a few weeks, cut that back?
