Lutelyse to induce heat?

Is this common practice? (We use it on our horses all the time)
I read it somewhere and now cant find the info! What is the dosage and timing?
Thanks!

Some people do it, but my goat mentor says it's not recommended if the doe isn't having fertility problems. She says it can actually mess up a goat's natural cycle. The best way I've found to get does to cycle is to have a buck nearby. I trotted my newest boy down to the doe pen the past two days and today I had two does in heat. I know there is info on lute in goatkeeping 101 on DGI.

We just tried this on our female alpaca. I sure do hope it works!

We used the Lutalyse last year with a doe that we couldn't detect heats, and she came in (currantly don't have a buck, have to drive 2 hours to the one we use). This year we had 11 does to bring in and when we gave them the lute not one came in...still working with the vet to figure out what happened there. Anyways, instead of giving them another dose, we just let them come in naturally and 8 of the 11 are now bred

I suggust just letting them come in naturally (if possible) but sometimes you do need to use it. According to my large animal vet specializing in goats, he said that the lute does not mess them up in any way.

The dosage is 2ml and we gave that to our does from 100# (kids) - 200# (adult doe!). Be very careful with it and read the label completely - NOT safe around a pregnant women or one that could be.
The does should come into heat anywhere from 48 hours - 5 days after the shot is administered.

they won't neccesarily release an egg when heat is induced. so they may appear to be ready to be bred but not actual fertile.
