sick goat ?

We have a dairy goat about 7 years old. In Aug. she started panting mouth open end of tongue black. Called the vet he recommended an antihistimine shot. Gave her the shot , the panting went away after a couple of days. Yesterday it started up again she seemed winded and has lost a little weight. Am planing on taking her to the vet in the AM. Any iedas??? thanks

Well, for basic starters, have we taken a temp? Whats the last thing you dewormed with?
Pain, extream heat and lungworms are about all that will make a goat pant, with the rare chance of allergies.

Whats a goats temp supposed to be? She was wormed in June. The vet gave me the wormer, didn't ask what it was. The weather here is cool and rainy so she not overheating.

June was 4 months ago. I would treat for lung worms after reading Cannon Farm's post. It won't hurt.

The antihistimine shot would have worked faster than that if that was the problem. There is a lot of information on www.fiascofarm.com on different wormers and worming. I would also take a look at the inside eyelids and see what color they are...they should be pink. Worm overload causes so many problems and is so common, that is why I would really look into what is going on with that. For goats, most dewormer is done orally...even with injectable wormers. I sure hope you can get her fixed up!

Most vets do NOT know what works for goats, and lung worms can be harder to treat than intestinal worms. If you read on Fiascos site you can see the ones that work and dont work for it.
I personally use three different wormers here depending on the goat and breeding stages. Ivomect, Cydectin (quest for us) and then oxabendzole *sp?* but the thing is not every wormer is going to work like it should in every area or with every goat.

btw, when I treated for lung worms i did a round of ivomectin (horse wormer) every three days for a total of 9 days this also helps with the intestinal worms and is the only way that that drug seems to work here.
