Thumbs down I am so embarrassed! My goats are NAUGHTY

OMG! Hubby and I were out buying supplies all afternoon. When we got home I didn't see the goats and they didn't come running like usual when I come home. So I called them. Nothing. I looked in their house. nothing. Ok...now I am getting nervous. I yell to hubby I can't find them so we both start this frantic search...they are NOWHERE! OMG I am starting to freak. Then a friend from town pulls in the driveway..."are you looking for your goats?" YES! WHERE ARE THEY says me the mad woman at this point. Well, there is this nice very old man that walks the gravel roads everyday for exercise and when he walked by the goats ran up to him and followed him! He couldn't get them to stay and they followed him home...a mile away. He didn't know our name but he knew that we knew my friend so called her. Luckily she had just walked in the house to get the call. She called me...no answer so she drove over. She drove me over to the mans house and there are Gretta, Frankie and Flossie...eating away at all their pretty flowers around their house I could have died right there. I cannot believe they did this! I said sorry a million times...he and his wife were very nice about it thank goodness. The wife did say something about us needing a bigger fence. yikes.
So I walked them all the way home...the whole time they are acting like ... what? did we do something wrong
Needless to say they are in lock down. Silly, silly, naughty goats!

That is so funny, well for me it was anyways!! I laughed really hard anyways! You & your little goat antics are too much sometimes! My goats would probly follow him for awhile but I don't think they'd go near that far. We are 600 feet off the road, well there barn is probly about 700 feet & they never even go that far & it's all alfafa between them & the road.
You'll probly have to start locking them up if your going to be gone or take down some goat food to the old couple! Hahaha!

Ok, I don't get it. Were the goats just running loose while you were gone?

Well, they are sociable critters. Must teach them not to walk off with strangers.

If I recall, you don't pen your goats?

For their own safety, make sure they're penned. Letting them out for supervised playtimes while you're out working with them is fine, but out constantly causes trouble. Eventually, they WILL range, for no better reason than the 'grass is greener', like they did today. One day they'll follow someone home who will make them dinner. Or loose dogs will get them. Or a car could hit them on your road (you'd be responsible for any damage, death, or injury just like with loose horses in the road, I'd imagine)

And tell them about Stranger Danger. BarBQ, in other words. Goatburgers. Scare 'em silly.

Or give one of them a cellphone to call you when they are ready to come home. "Mom, can you come get us?"

Shame! You never taught your kids not to talk to strangers let alone go home with them

I love your goat stories and pictures by the way

Too funny! I got a call at work Monday morning from our local township road crew and he asked if I was renting pasture on the bridge near our house. I said 'please tell me it's goats and not horses or cattle!'. I guess 10 of the goats were hanging out. Luckily our road is not traveled much and my husband was home. He was cussing me as he hard to play shepherd and drive them back through the fence. Mine are in lock-down also! Bad goats...

Yes...they are only locked up at night for the most part. They always stay right by the house...on the porch. We did take the dogs with us...that was the only thing different. We are on a gravel road in the middle of no-where surrounded by acres & acres of corn and beans. The closest neighbor is 1 mile away. This is the first time in 2 years they have ever left our home. But they did go horse riding with us a couple weeks ago...maybe that's were they got the idea it was ok to leave. I don't know I'm going to take some fresh eggs over to the guy...I feel bad about it. My hubby thinks it's no big deal since we always have to chase loose cattle that are on pasture and get out. But those are not his cows...so I still feel bad about it.

Those naughty goats were eating the guy's flowers, not just grass. Eggs would be nice to say "we're sorry" and "thanks for helping get them back home."

Weren't these the same goats that wanted to go get ice cream and were waiting on top of your car? Sounds like they are getting bored and need chores to keep them out of trouble.

*rofl*
My new next door neighbors where watching their modular go up when suddenly they look down and see my pygmy standing next to them watching too. She turned, kicked up her heels and ran back home.
Unfortunately, I made better fencing to keep her in and she ate something toxic in the pen.

I had a Houdini kid once, she found a few places she could squeeze underneath the fence, since she was so small. A neighbor threatened to shoot her the third time she got out.

Yes...these are the same ones. They are on the car as I type. I'll have to think up something for them to do. Jeepers...there is enough stuff around here for them to explore and play with....woods, fields, cars, tractors, porch (with ramp) gardens, fruit trees, I could go on and on...we are doing a lot of work around here so there is stuff everywhere. But NOOOOO they have to follow the old man home.

I used to have a pet wether, my first goat. He was loose in the yard, thought he was one of the dogs, for a long time. It was fun. I'd sit out on the deck, surrounded by dogs and a goat. Then the dogs got older and started morning rounds. Willy went, too, but where a dog comes home when it's hungry, a goat doesn't have to do that. So. Willy was lost.
I put up a missing goat notice at the little town gas station 2 miles from here. A white goat, with no ears, (LaMancha) and a red collar is pretty easy to identify! He was found and brought home the next day, and then penned.
I now have a goat almost a year, opposite situation. Neighbors found it and called me. I penned it up, put up the Found goat flier, someone called and said it was theirs..... She's still here. Her name is Stray, and she has 2 gorgeous babies right along with the other girls.
