First goat bred...

Our very first goat went to be bred today. Well, they went about a week ago, but they weren't in heat. It was some wierd mid-cycle thing. It was the real thing today, it seems. The goat lady came and got her, and said the buck was very eager to see her, evidently. Now that she's back home, she is not very happy, wanting to be around us, and her poor vulva is all red. We think it took this time, so I'm going to mark my calendar for 18-21 days. If that works, then I'll mark out 5 months from today.

Now, we only have 3 more left to breed, but the 2 doelings are going to be bred closer to December to let them grow as much as possible before breeding, which only leaves Fancy to be done as soon as she comes into heat again (maybe the next week?).

That's great! Almost all ours are bred (we still have 4 to go) and they're due from Feb. 21 to whenever the last four take...hopefully SOON!

I've been told that Alpines come in later, so this is only the 2nd or 3rd heat cycle they've had. I'm getting excited.
