pnemonia vaccine

I got the vaccine. Mannheimia Haemolytica - Pasterella Multiocida Bacterin - Colorado Serum Co.
2ml sub Q administer 2 doses 2 to 4 weeks apart.

Does this sound right? Wanted to run it by the pros before I do it

I've been told 2ml SQ every 6 months...I don't know if you have to do a "booster" (like you do with C,D&T) before it's every 6 months.

Jenna

Oh, you give it to goats that are 6 months and up.

Does it depend on the part of the country we live in or something as to if we should do that vaccine? I have never heard of it till now & I've had goats for almost 6 years now.

We live in MI too, and we administer the Pnemonia vaccine because our does are going to shows and fair a couple times a year. If your animals are at home only, than I wouldn't worry about the vaccine. If you are bringing them to shows/fair etc. than I would definitely look into it

HTH,
Jenna

You always follow the directions on vaccinations, when it says 2cc given 2 to 4 weeks apart it is written like that so you know that it imparts immunity at that strength and yes it seals immunity on the second shot. It won't keep your goats from every getting pasturella/shipping fever, but when they do it's mild cases. Make sure you give this away from the front leg, over the skin of the last rib is a good place, some localized swelling is normal, you don't want your does lame from this swelling at point of elbow by giving this too far into the armpit area.

Once given the second shot you can just boost them once a year like you do your CD&T. Vicki

Thanks barngirl, They are always at home so I don't think they need it. Since I have never done show's, etc. that's probly why I hadn't heard of it.
