So she can't feel her tail :(

Ok the little boer can't feel her tail. She always moves when I touch her and I get no responce when I touch her tail with out actually moving it. If I move it she doesn't like it one bit. Now what? Would anything cause this other then trauma?
Thanks
Sorry of spelling I'm tired

There's really nothing that can be done. It will either heal or stay the same. I don't think it's interfering with her quality of life.

She pees and poos on it. Should I do something. It is my 4 year olds friend and she doesn't normally get attached to critters, but I can't see investing alot of money in her either.

You could shave her tail.

I'd shave it all but the tuft on the end, then barrette it with the tuft to the side or up.

I was thinking the hair helped protect her skin from the poo? Is it better to have it shaved and let the pee and poo touch skin or get in her hair? Sorry I am just don't know which avenue would be better as I don't have a hairy butt

Clean and dry the tail well and smear a thin coat of zinc ointment (diaper rash cream) on the underside. Maybe your vet could amputate it for not a lot of money.

Thats what I was thinking too, Kim. An amputation would seem like a better *fix* that constantly having to treat/ prevent scald.

I would dock/band it. If it was a cat or dog you would amputate it for sure.

I'd look into getting it amputated. I'd be worried about docking or banding something myself on an animal her age. But if you feel comfortable with it, by all means! It just seems best to get rid of the tail all together in any way, I think.

I would figure that she has no feeling anyways so it shouldnt be cruel. Just have to watch for flies and infection. I dont think I would pay what the vets around here charge, but if there is a good goat vet with reasonable prices then go for it!

Having her tail like that may mean a deeper problem- like a sub-luxation in her spine, evidenced by the fact she doesn't want it touched. If it were truly a nerve dead tail, she wouldn't care if you touched it or not..

I am thinking a pinched nerve in the lower spine from kidding. Try massage and such on her spine between her hips, tail and ligaments before you go messing with amputating her tail......I'd be out there having someone hold her while I was pulling her tail in such a way as to hear the bones pop into place....IE: she could use a chiropractor.
