For me it depends on the goat. I have to see them for a bit until they earn their name.

My most recent ones got their names because of their looks and sounds. Chaps because it looked like he was wearing chaps. Telly because when he cried he sounded like a telephone.

You'll come up with something good. We give ours a proper name then they develop thier personalites & get called that.
Miss Balango (combo of dam Snowball & sire Durango) answers to Beluga.

Miss Behavin gets called Miss B
her daughter Miss Demeanor is Booty Queen
Sissy (as in sister) bottle baby is Pita Royale

I like names that are totally uncharacteristic! I think it is fun! Like naming big tough animals things like "Sparkles, Fluffy, Tuffy, Smoochy" Then little dainty animals "Thor, Tunder, Butch" It makes things fun!

We name our goats after extended family members. My brothers and sisters and my husband's brothers and sisters are now each asking when it's their turn to get a namesake.

I make lists of names, and when I get to know the animal I pick one that "fits". Or sometimes a name pops up out of nowhere. I had a ewe lamb that needed naming this spring, and the name "Sasha" just seemed to fit. It wasnt even on the list!

Ours are named after having them for a while. I don't know if their names describe them....but they fit for us!!

Missy (was the littlest when we bought our first 4 goats
Esmeralda
Faith
Wisdom
Big Mama (actually a sheep, but she was HUGE!!)
Windy (born on a windy day)
Shrek (looked like shrek when he was born!!)
Chivaldo (goat in spanish is chiva...he was a boy)
Mocha
Henry (our new buck...kids came up with it. He is white with black and dark brown spots.
nothing to do with how he looks!! LOL)

I like to plan registered names, but "call" names I usually pick after seeing the animal. Except for a few that were already named or named by one of my parents. These are all of our pets names (excluding the fish!), so maybe this will give you an idea:

Horses:
Sam
Krystal

Goats:
Brownie
Sandy
Beauty (who is a wether named after Black Beauty, the horse)
Clara
Rumor
Ariel

Dogs:
Trixi
Snowy
Blondie
Lucky
Bree
Juju

Cats:
Sadie
Rudy
Fancy
Pippin
Sheba

I can't remember all the duck's names..haha.

Rats:
Caramella
Clover
