Question about pygmies

Dh has a line on two pygmie goats, a buck and a doe. My question is, can a doe pygmie be milked? And if so, about how much should I expect? If not they will still be good brush control!

I had a pygmie/Nubian cross who was DETERMINED to be a milk goat. She always pushed in the milk house, jumped on the stand, and gave us two cups per day.

She has gone to be a family pet with another family now, but she was a lot of fun.

lol - I don't think they really could be milked enough to bother. I have a little herd of them, and they do wonders for mountain clearing!

Now, you could do Nigerian Dwarfs and get the mini quality and the dairy quality, but I am not sure if they are as hardy as Pygmy goats are.

We used to have pygmy goats & I had 1 that was pretty good for some milk but I'm sure nothing like you'd get rom a dairy breed. Our goats have always been pets for us so milking is not in my plans. We now have Nigerians & we don't milk them either.

I think the right pygmy can be milked but you won't get a gallon a day but then I could be wrong too. They are very hardy, great to help clear up some brush, good personalities & alot of fun. Plus they are smaller than a full size goat so housing, etc. can be smaller. Depends on what you want them for but they are actually a meat breed & the meat is really good.

they will generally only have enough for their kids and most likely only for a short period of time. also generally speaking thier teats will be so tiny that they will be difficult to milk anyway. they are hardy and great goats to get started with though.
