CDT Booster Vaccinations

I gave my kids their first shot at 3 months old,per Vets opinion, on July 24th.
Then forgot about giving them their booster on Aug 24th.

Or I have to start over? Tetanus is nothing I ever want to deal with in my life, ever, it's a nasty thing.
And yes, my goat do cut themselves from time to time. As do I.
My shot is up to date

Advise please ....

Kris

No expert here, but I've read about others forgetting theirs as well. I think with older animals - year old - you just give them a booster and do that every year. Since yours are still young...well, let's see what folks have to say. Mine boosters are scheduled for this weekend...thanks for the reminder!

I think I need more info, the Vt said I have to start over.
First shot again, then booster 30 days later. (like I should have done the first time). My fault.

OH MY $$

If the experts on here don't respond, consider starting over. It won't hurt.

I use Microsoft Outlook - Calendar for scheduling. It reminds me of this sort of thing, 20-day CoRid treatments, trim hooves, Bo-Se to the brooders in Sept. etc. For this absent-minded head, MS works for me.
Best. Paul

Yes, you must start over. The boosters for adult animals, you can fudge a little one way or the other, but not the initial kid shots.
By the way, goats should get *two* booster shots per year, not one. I give one pre-kidding and one pre-breeding. Easy to remember this way.
Really, CDT shots are so cheap. Oh, I have forgotten more than once, believe me.
I now count forward to the next shot and write that on my daily calendar so I remember when the time comes.

There is no hard and fast rules about this, you set your management you are comfortable with and also accept your own losses.

Since my babies are born out of vaccinated dams I do now vaccinate at 6 and 9 weeks old, then after all the kids are 12 weeks old and the ones left are the ones who are staying until they freshen than they all get one more shot.

If you aren't vaccinating the dams prekidding and they aren't vaccinated themselves (2 shots, 21 days apart) than yes you should use antitoxin if you disbud or castrate and move your CD&T (toxoid) to 3 and 6 weeks. In that case for sure I would give a booster at weaning. Vicki

My little buckling is 3 months old and I have no idea if he has had a CDT shot. Since I don't know, is it safe to go ahead and give him one now?

If you don't know, then yes. Give him 2cc CD&T subq. and mark your schedule for another in 21 days.

My Covexin 8 says to boost 6 weeks later for sheep and cattle. It says nothing about 3 weeks anywhere. Are goats different and need it given 3 weeks later? Is 6 weeks only for Covexin? Also I give a vitamin E with the Covexin and it really helps with the lump.

Alwasy follow your vaccination dosage instructions. Like with Covexin 8 use the 5 cc (I haven't used it in so long I think it is that) but in a tiny 3 or 6 week old kid that is alot of vaccination. Plus for me here tetanus is the killer, so I don't want to use an 8 way that contains less tetanus toxoid than a 3 way does. Plus I long ago got rid of my staph problems so using Covexin 8 for malignant edema isn't needed anymore...if I did get another diagnosis, I surely would go back to using his on my adults, but not my kids.

There are simply way to many diluted clostridiums in Covexin 8 to be using it unless you have a local diagnosis of a problem...... do you need the other 5 strains of clostridiums on your place? Vicki
