I did it!

I'm proud of myself, excited and nervous all at the same time. After reading many threads on here about CAE, I called Biotracking and ordered a starter testing kit. On Sunday I drew blood from all my goats while my 11 year old held them still. Yesterday I boxed up the samples and sent them on there way to the lab. I've purchased all my goats from people who said they were CAE free and said they tested for CAE regularly but I never demanded proof. After finding this forum and reading all the threads, I now know that I shouldn't just take their word on it and I need to know for sure. I only have one doe that is questionable in my mind. I'm hoping for the best, negative results for all!

I'll stop rambling... Thanks for listening...

Val

did you find a lab where you can get CL testing done too? I've just been looking and I can't seem to find a lab where I can get CL testing done~ so how do all these people test for CAE and CL? I'm trying to work up my nerve to test.......and if I work myself up to it......how do I test for both?

A lot of people here say they test for both CL and CAE. I've found where I can send the CAE test.......but how do you all test for CL?

For CL and many other tests, many people use WADDL -

I actually just talked to the people at WADDL Yesterday
There is a base charge of 10.00
then CAE is 6.00 - CL is 9.00 per goat
Once I get my supplies this week that is where I will be sending them.

The WADDLE web site says they want you to go through your vet......my vet thinks I'm nuts for even considering doing the testing so I'm not real excited about paying him to draw the blood and send the tests in.

You don't have to go through your vet but it might not hurt to print out the info for him. You might help expand his market!

Good for you Val!

I still need to do this myself so your post is encouraging to me. I just recently disbudded and banded for the first time so I understand how you feel. But I still need to learn to draw blood. One thing at a time, right?

Again - Congrats to you! and here's hoping for all negative results!!

It is much easier than you would think, you'll do fine! I'm just learning all this too, disbudded on my own for the first time a few weeks ago.

Just checked my email and the results were there from Biotracking. They all tested negative for CAE! WOOHOO... what a relief!

CL blood testing is pretty much pointless. CL can hide for long periods of time and the only real way you can get a real reading is if they have an active abscess- or if they have been vaccinated with CaseBac or the like and show a titer form the vaccine.

UC Davis is the gold standard for CL testing, not WADDL.
