New MiniMancha goats!!

I got my new goats yesterday!!! I picked up three MiniMancha goats - two does and one buck. The does have both freshened before, so I won't have to deal with any FF next spring. The buck is about 6 months old, so he's unproven...I know I'm taking a risk with that but its one I'm willing to take.

As an added bonus, the younger of the two does is in milk! So I milked my first goat last night, and again this morning. Predictably, last night was a disaster, but things went well this morning I've got goats milk in my fridge !!

I put a few pictures on my new goat website: www.AberforthGoats.homestead.com

It was hard to get decent pics of the does, as they kept following me around!

Thanks! The doe in milk (Star) might have a sub-clinical case of mastitis - the breeders weren't sure, but her milk has a slight tang to it so they said I might want to pick up some antibiotics for her "just in case"....although honestly they didn't seem too worried about it. Other than that, her milk is really good.

Shadow and Star both have nice udders, Star's teats are a little small but I have small hands and I didn't have any trouble milking her, once I got the hang of it

They took me to the back pasture where they keep all their bucks so I could pick out the one I wanted, and the smell of about six adult bucks really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe because its still early in breeding season??? I can tell they have a distinct odor to them, but it didn't knock me down. The boy I brought home is young, and I can't smell him until I'm in his pen with him. The stink does tend to cling to my hands/clothes, but I expected that.

Overall, I can't complain!

I'd get the vet to send off a sterile sample of milk and have it tested. Mastitis is not something to fiddle around with.
