Kid disbudder?

We need something smaller to disbud our kids, because the one we have is for calves and we have to wait weeks to disbud them because their heads are so small. Does anyone know of a good and economical disbudder? We don't want to spend too much money, but we don't want bad equipment either. We were thinking one from Caprine Supply if they are still doing that free shipping thing.

We were thinking this one for 90$:

Rhinehart X50 Disbudding Iron with Small Caprine Tip
$89.50

Kid disbudder? - Goats

Heavy-duty Rhinehart X50 calf dehorner with special Caprine 3/4" diameter tip is one of the best irons we've found for disbudding kid goats. Iron gets very hot for quick disbudding. Heavy copper head retains heat so you can disbud several kids in a row. The basic head for disbudding large calves has 2 1/2" diameter. For disbudding kid goats, we attach our specially-designed 3/4" diameter Caprine tip. Dehorner can be used on Pygmy and Nigerian Dwarf kids if you wait until there is sufficient horn buds. Built-in stand. Iron is 10" long with tip; 8" long 3-wire cord. CAS approved. 239 watts. 120 volts.

The smaller tip is almost too small. I am adding a bushing to the outside of the tip. We keep getting scurs, even though we are burning the pee-waddle out of their heads.

That is the iron we have now. I got a cheaper one first, and it takes too long to reheat.

Do you all do the disbudding yourselves? I think I could do it but I am a little afraid.

Get a mentor show you how. Yes, you can do it.

It is very unpleasant, but it must be done.

So should I buy that version?

My ag teacher is teaching me how, I have done calves before, but no goats. Apparently they used that paste on my other two doeling today to get rid of their scurs. I don't know which is worse.... I geuss scurs would have been like for life, and the paste to get rid of it was like a few hours. Maybe we should start doing it in the future to stop scurs from happening...

Anyways, I probably won't do his just cuz I love him so much I can't stand it. I will do it with future ones, but he is my little bottle raised whether! lol he has been the exception to almost all my rules.

As far as I know, it's the best one out there.

Get the Rhinehart X50. Don't buy any adapter. Go to Home Depot. On the plumbing aisle, pick up a copper Nibco 1/2"X3/4" male adapter. The small end fits the hole on the iron, (might take a couple taps w/a hammer)and the large end gives you the right size circle for disbudding.

I like the X30 and use it fine but it does NOT have interchangeable tips.
