Will her goat not be able to kid them because they will be to large or something?? I am worried because she has never kidded out a goat before, and I might be out of town when it happens so I might not be able to help...

yes, she would be lucky to pull through carrying them, let alone kidding, way to large on a pygmy, espec. a firt freshener. I would defiantly advise her to lute her doe

What does lute mean? She is due next month, I just learned today that it was Pygmy goat that she bred the LaMancha buck to, it wasn't my buck, it was the buck that I took home over the weekend, some kid is supposedly taking care of him, and he gave her to to breed. I didn't know about it until today!

lute is a med to "clean her out" If shes due next month i guess the best thing would perhaps schedual a c-section.

dont panic and it dosent seem you did anything wrong, if shes knows her exact due date, I would have your friend (or try to advise her) to make a c-section apt with a vet.

How sad. In the very least your post might help educate lurkers out there reading. Not to breed a dwarf/pygmy doe to a standard buck!!
If there's no vet available to do a c section, then that birth will have to be attended and assisted. On another goat forum, a gal had a Nigerian dwarf bred to a boer buck. The single buck kid and the doe survived, after a horrendous assisted birth, with one person holding the dam still so the other person could pull the kid. From what I read it was traumatic for all concerned, not just the goats. A pic of the kid and doe showed a kid almost half the size of his mother. He needed to kneel to nurse from birth.
I wonder if lute would cause the doe to abort at this late point? Seems like the only sure way to save the doe.

Erg this is scaring me. I can assist a goat in birth... but it doesn't make it any easier that her vulva will be tiny (small goat breed, plus I think this is her first kidding) and that I might not be in town, which would basically mean she is screwed--unless if I can find a vet. I am going to drive down their tonight and look to see how 'preggy' she looks. Like I said, if she is a month away, she should be huge.

I highly recommend that person STOPS ALL GRAIN and limits that does' intake to ONLY HAY 24/7 (and water and minerals, of course). That will slow the kid's growth now that it's in it's last month. Hope that doe is in optimal breeding condition - IE, not overweight and is 'wide' enough to accommodate large kids.

Another idea to give your friend is to put the doe on hay only, to prevent too much growth in the kid. No grain or concentrates.

Oh no, I really really hope that her kidding doesn't go as bad as it could. Please keep us updated! Praying the little pygmy doe and the kids make it. -crosses fingers-

I ahope she has twins, that may also help as the kids could be smaller.
I would call some vets to see if they can help just in case things do go wrong.
Best wishes

A friend of mine had Pygmy goats, then someone gave her a LaMacha. They thought he was fixed and she was new to the goat world. Well, he was banded and they only got one testicle and he bred that Pygmy. she had twins, but she died three days later. We fond out it was because she had a torn uterus form the babies.
That is really nice of you to try to help her find a vet, but will she take the doe to the vet if needed? Sometimes when people have animals and do not look for a vet to have on call for a emergency, that usually says they will not take the time to get them to the vet or want to pay the bill.
I hope you can get some pictures of this doe. Good Luck

Too bad that she didn't think first before the breeding. Actually, I am glad I read this because my mom loves the mini-nubians and wanted to breed her mini-nubian doe to my 250 pound Purebred Nubian buck, not the way to go I see!

Pygmys have more difficult births than Nigerian Dwarfs do, as a general rule. They have, however, been known to successfully deliver kids out of a full size buck, especially in the case of multiple kids. She will need to be watched closely when she starts labor and notify your vet she may need a C section.
As for Nigerians, two of my friend's does were accidentally bred by a Nubian buckling. They both successfully delivered twins. One was a yearling. I bought one of the doelings out of the breeding and bred her to my full size buck to kid at two years old. She delivered triplets. We were there for the birth and, while we did help pull them, it was an easy birth. Thus said, I would breed a mini Nubian to a full size one, but I'd never breed a pygmy doe to a full size buck and would also think twice before breeding a ND to a full size buck. Mini Nubians are usually a bit bigger than purebred NDs and Pygmys.
