Thumbs down They saw him coming!

I had someone call me last night, to say that their goat was in heat, and could they bring her to breed to one of my bucks. I said sure, but kind of wondered - in heat, now?

Very nice couple, raise poultry organically, and bought this goat for milk. Well! They were told she was 18 months old, bred, with triplets. She's a Nubian/Boer cross, has a full mouth of teeth and horns as long as one of mine that is 4. She's also wild . Oh, and not in heat - she had a sore on her vulva that made it look swollen and pink. I didn't like to ask what they'd paid for her. Makes me angry that newbies would be taken advantage of like that.

I sent them home and suggested they put antibiotic ointment on the sore, and deworm her. Not that her eyelids were pale, but it hadn't been done, and it never hurts!

They're interested in one of my yearling does, later on in the fall. She's very tame, and should be a decent little milker. I can't imagine even trying to milk the doe they have. Not without four strong guys each holding a leg! They don't live too far from me, so I'm hoping that they will feel comfortable coming to me and asking questions. I think they will - we seemed to hit it off.

Man, how I wish you were MY neighbor

I just got off the phone w/ the only local guy that has LaManchas -
I introduced myself & told him I'd been doing my research & found he was the only guy around w/ them & wondered if I could come visit him at his convenience to see his goats......He just laughed.....

I'm so bummed - I was so nervous to call him to begin with & then he wasn't helpful at all

Well, that's not very friendly! I got lucky when I got into goats - I can truly say that anyone that has sold me a goat, I consider a friend. Some are closer than others, but all are friends.

Thats so wrong, but it happens all the time. I make sure that when I sell a goat or one of my Dexter calves, that the buyer knows all I know about the animal. I want them to feel free to call me with any problem and that I will be available for any help they may need. I really want people to be happy with what they buy from me. I'd like to think that they will want to buy from me again.

Geeze. Thats no way to treat anybody, especially nice goat newbies. Good thing you were there for them.
