Retained testicle in new kid- sad! :(

Not a very happy morning here!

Took our 6 day old Nubian kids to get de-budded and a local vet office, and while we were there I found out that you could wether them at the same time so I said go ahead. I have 2 human kids also- a 6 yr old boy and a 5 yr old girl, and they have each claimed one of the goat kids for themselves. This is our first experience with goats and the kids just LOVE them.

So I have ALL the "kids" with me and in the vet office, she examines my sons kid, and finds that he only has one testicle. ... She says right away "well better sell him for meat by the time he is 30 days old" and not to waste the $$ on debudding and wethering him.

Well my poor little boy was just horrified. We are not complete vegatarians but we do not eat meat not very often and NEVER something that we raised. I don't think he had any idea that people even ate goats.

Then add to that I had no idea that the debudding was not a very attractive procedure and both my kiddos were crying so hard all the way home! just broke my heart.

So what do we do with him?? She suggested finding a home for him as a "spotter" at a larger breeding farm. I did go ahead and debud and wether half of him, to at least give us a little time to digest the news here.
Right now I only have their mother as our milk goat and the 2 kids.

Many times the other testicle will descend on its' own. Wait on him and them take him to a goat person who knows better then this vet does when it is time! The hole it pops through may not be developed enough yet.
