Making hay/silage from clippings

I was reading Raising Milk Goats Successfully and they mentioned you could make your own hay/silage from clippings. We are going to be cutting down some small trees to expand the shed we are going to be using for the goats, and so we'll have lots of greenery that could be used. Do I simply let it sit and dry out? Help me out! Thanks!

I don't think you can use tree trimmings for silage. My goats love dried leaves so I would just let the branches dry with the leaves on and give it to them as a treat. I think there are some fruit trees or maple that are toxic but I can't remember.

I collect bags of dried leaves in the fall for winter goat treats. They eat them like potato chips.

We pick up people's yard rakings. The goats love them as long as there's not a dog in the family.
