Banded Bucks

So today i banded my little 4 week old bucks and felt sorry for the little fellas as they couldn't seem to get comfortable for the first 20 minutes or so. They bawled they would lay down only to get back up not being able to get comfortable. After all their carrying on they finally were able to relax and seemed fine the rest of the day. They also got their c&d vaccination today before i banded them..tough day on the little guys...

I know, some are such drama queens, but I just can't seem to get the courage to cut the little fellas, even though my good friend has shown me how to cut them, I just can't. I have to band my last two little ones today and I just know that one of them will carry on something fierce as he thinks he is a lap dog anyway, and follows DH around begging for cookies. I have asked him not to do that to the Freezer Camp Kids.

Yep just banded a little guy here yesterday also and man talk about carring on. He is 1/2 Alpine and 1/2 nigerian and is 8 weeks old...he is doing fine today and up and playing. Yep its got to be done and with the flies I much prefer banding to cutting.

Even with banding though, I frequently check for any kind of irritation around the band. We had one that got a little irritated and I used iodine and it went away asap.

Usually mine only act uncomfortable for a little while after banding them. If I'm going to band any little bucks I try to do it at around 2 weeks of age. So far this year none to band yet but still have 2 more doe's to deliver. Have 1 person waiting for a little wether if I get a little buckling born already.

Between 2 and 4 weeks of age is the best time for banding. JMO
