Anyone try this?

I know we have had a couple threads about mosquitos already this year but over in the rabbit forum someone said they use White Distilled vinegar straight out of the bottle for there rabbits to repel mosquito's. Just don't get it in there eye's of course. Anyone ever try it on there goats? Is there any reason that you can think of why we shouldn't try it on goats? The Mosquito's are unbearable here already this year & if I don't find something stronger that works longer or better I may have to use the Skin so Soft straight out of the bottle too.

I have used vinegar in a spray bottle when milking to keep flies away. It works pretty good but not 100%.

I tried it yesterday so we'll see how it works. I just hope it will work a little better than skin so soft or at least last longer. I always feel so bad for them when the bugs are bothering them.

I had DH get a bunch of fly traps and put them all around the barn. They are full already.

Not sure about rabbits but if dogs drink it it will cause the fleas and ticks to evacuate quick like it was almost bizarre within 1 to 1 1/2 hours the dog house was covered in ticks but nothing on the dog.

I use the frontline on the dogs & don't have a problem with the fleas & ticks just mosquito's & flies.

Rockytopsis, I too use those fly trap, they work Great, they smell really bad but I always use them all summer too.

What about spraying them with citronella oil?

backfourty, waiting to hear your update. The mosquitoes are so bad we have to shake the bug zappers so you can see the light! My poor babies wish i had a million dollars to build a huge barn with a living quarters for me with central air and heat..... ok back to reality

I think like someone else said the vinegar works, I think about as well as the Skin so soft. Not sure which one last longer though. The mosquito's are so bad this year we will probly have to spray the goats, etc. more often so I guess as long as they work the same I would go with what is less exspensive.
I will keep the bug zappers going & also that spray stuff that you spray on the yard, etc. that goes on the end of the hose, I am going to spray around the perimeter of the goats pen's when I do our yard & see if that doesn't help. They don't browse in there penned area, they are too spoiled & let out free everyday for that.

Fishhead, do you mean like the citronella oil that you would use in the tiki torch things, etc.? That's a really good Idea, I have gallons of that stuff in my garage right now. You always have good ideas.

I've also heard the listerine works well for mosquito protection.

I'm not sure how well it works for mosquitos, but for flys, pyranha fly spray is great. I spray it on and when a fly lands on them you can actually see it start to stumble around and fall to the ground. It doesn't take much, so a bottle really lasts a long time. They have it in aerosol, pump spray and wipe on.
