Nubians...

People told me that Nubian does are talkative.

Mm-hm.

I thought they meant "talkative" like a boxer or bull dog talkative.

Instead, I think what they meant is that Nubian does are whiny little princesses, and that the late great Frank Zappa wrote a song about them...

So how do you know when something is actually WRONG out there, as opposed to her whining to get me out there with a fistful of raisins?

Oy.

It's like a Great Pyr barking. You know there's a problem when you STOP hearing them.

I have heard this a lot... but I have 5 full nubian does and they are so quiet...2 are even pregnant and due at the end of May so both are really big and it's been real hot lately that I think they are entitled to be a bit "whiney"... but not my girls...Every now and then they call me one or two times and if I can't get over there right then...they move on to some browse and are quiet again...their house and pen is pretty close to where they can see/hear us so maybe thats why..??? Now my neighbors Pygmy's OTOH.. are so loud day and night..especially the new kids born in March..

Mine are quiet, they moan some though. Now on the occasion when they DO talk, everyone knows about it, that's for sure.

I don't know enough about goats to tell you for sure what I have, but he has got to be the most obnoxious goat in the world. Every morning as soon as the lights come on in the house, ususally about 5am, he starts squalling like someone is trying to slit his throat (sometimes I would like to). He won't shut up until he's fed. It's really annoying on the weekends, because we tend to try to sleep a bit later, notice I said try, because ol' Pete, that's his name, makes sure we know it's time to get up. lol

Mine used to stand with their front feet on the shelter and literally scream at every car that drove by. I could hear them 1,000' away.

Fawn is the only Nubian here and she is the only goat I hear squawking unless it is time to go outside then they all start but she is the loudest by far.

Yep mine make noise, much more so than the other breeds I have had. I enjoy their personalities, and I totally believe that if you purchase and breed the breed you like the best, that they fit your personality to a tee Ironically at appraisal, the only one hollaring was the lone Alpine! vicki

Mine are pretty quiet. My buck was loud when he was lonely but then I got him a companion and now he's nice and quiet again. I think it just depends on their personalities.

We've got Boers, Toggenburgs, an Alpine, and Nubians. One nubian will out-talk 10 of the others any day!

We had one Nubian who became freezer meat because she was so STUPID and also didn't breed. She would stand on your toes and get in your way and roll her head like a helicopter. Remember Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars? The writer knew Nubians when he wrote that character.

ROTFL!

Yeah, I really like her, but she's screams bloody murder. Told the neighbors that if they hear someone screaming but it's not in English, don't worry -- it's just the goat.

She has a buddy, and most of the time she's fine. But then she'll see me out with the other animals, or doing a chore, and she wants me there NOW. If she sees me heading back to the house, she actually screams LOUDER. Very unnerving!

But I guess that also proves she's pretty bright.

Our Nubian/Boer x is definitely the loudest of the girls.

But the All-time Stupid Award has to go to my yearling boer doe who, just today, had full run of the farm with here half sister. I let them out of their pen so they could go roam around and browse at will. What did she do? She CLIMBED THE FENCE to get INTO the pen where I just put a couple stray branches of brush that I cut, completely ignoring the fact that there are acres and acres of the same brush OUT WHERE SHE ALREADY WAS.

I guess it's not only the grass that's greener on the other side of the fence.

We use to have nubians and the only time they were noisy is when they saw someone outside. But one day they were screaming loud. One of the does had a baby. Well they had been out grazing and the baby got sleepy and laid down in the tall grass. They kept walking and grazing. Went off and left him. Then when they missed him they both started screaming, and stood at the fence until we went into the pen to look for him. Found him curled up asleep. Then they were fine. Funny but the doe who was not the mother was more of a mother to the little buck than the mother was.
