Do you have a resource for Bo-Se

The breeder of our sweet little Nubians recommends Bo-Se selenium booster before kidding. We are struggling to locate it online without a prescription. Is that normal? Is the selenium / vitamin e gel just as good?

Thanks for the help!!

if the breeder recommends bo-se and you are in the same area, you will get it from your vet. gel is not the same

Many recommend but you need to know if your area is deficient! To much can be as bad as to little.
If your hay is from a selenium good area and you have pasture thats in a good selenium area, you dont need BOSE. Selenium is in goat feeds and in their minerals.

You only need the extreme of BOSE if your in a deficient area or your hay is and the selenium in goat feed and minerals isn't enough.

Thank you for such quick answers!! No, we are not in the same area... about 3 hours or so away. I will start researching my area to see if there is a deficiency. Hopefully not, as I have called 8 vets thus far in our area and none will see goats or prescribe for them. I appreciate your help so much!

Call back the breeder and ask if they can get it from their vet for you. The gel has some in it but not enough, as you will have to give it each day to add up to the shots. Some vets can order it for you and some wont. Mine will thank goodness or they will call it in for you to different sites. Some vets want to make sure you know what its for before giving it to you as too much is as bad as not enough.

If you are only three hours from the breeder and she says they need Bo-Se, you can pretty much count on it that to get the best health/growth/production from your goats, you need to give it too. You are in the same general area. What area of the country is this anyway?? If its near me, yes, you need it.
I give/sell Bo-Se to several folks who buy goats from me. The vets know and trust me and will sell me just about anything. New goat owners sometimes have problems getting it from vets who do not know them.
Can you get some from your breeder??

can I jump in here? We have 2 vets in our county- not many goats. When I asked our vet for Bose, she gave me a selenium shot. Is that the same? I did not give it to them, as wasn't sure, now they are 8 weeks, probably still need it. what would you do? (we are deficient here.)

Bo-Se is selenium and vitamin e in shot form. Yes, it is probably Bo-Se. I would call her and ask her if the shot she gave you is Bo-Se. This way you know you are giving the proper dosage. There is also Mu-Se but the dosage is *much* lower. So you *need* to know what you have before giving the shot.

InHisname yes it is probably BoSe.
We are in selenium deficient area too. Kids usually get the injection shortly after birth.
Moms get it a few weeks before breeding then again a few weeks out from kidding. It is a vet rx.
Ive never used the gel so cant comment there.

I live in an area that is so deficient in Selenium that I can buy BOSE at the farm store. The owner has a standing prescription from the vet.
