last kidding hardship

Today, finally, my last doe kidded. Unfortunately, it wasn't an easy kidding.

I watched her and decided to go in and see. Two feet and head in canal, okay. Waited....humm.... should have gotten farther by now. Pull her to her feet and go in again. Okay, here's the feet... now the head... ackkk, something is wrong, the feet are upside down, on top of the head. Oh no, two kids are coming out at once. Head is already out breathing so I start shoving the feet back in (crying out to Jesus to help me the whole time) encourage her to keep pushing out the head... Go back in and feet are tangled with the body so I start moving things around and find the feet that go to the head and pull.... one foot, then the other under the head... out he pops. (darn, it's a boy) Go in looking for the other kid and there is nothing there. Humm...

Go back, feeling around and finally feel feet. She is tired so I just pull out the kid. Yea, it's a pretty, paint girl. Nothing else in there.

So thinking about it, I finally figured out that the boy was coming out with his feet crossed over his head. Needless to say, she wasn't happy about the whole thing but she still likes me and is a wonderful mother. Kids are doing well.

Ironically, these last two does I have both had to have kids pulled. If they had been sold pregnant to beginners, who knows what would have happened to them. Thank you Lord

I remember the first kidding where I had to assist. I was crying so hard, and on my knees praying fervently, and my favorite (bottle kid) doe was screaming. My BP goes up just thinking about it.

Thank God you were there to deliver these kids! wow. I am sure glad Frankie & Flossie came out the way they were supposed to. I don't think I would have been able to handle a situation like this...it is a newbies nightmare.
Kids look cute! Congrats to you and GOOD JOB!

Good job!

"I finally figured out that the boy was coming out with his feet crossed over his head. "

We had one this year that presented perfectly...but as the head came out it was apparent that the kid was deformed, that it had a third leg growing out of the shoulder. It was dark, we got the kid out, put it in a bin and covered it up and sent it in to our oldest to tend to.

I came in and asked "how bad is it? Did dad take care of it?"

She looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently the kid is absolutely fine, it just decided coming out with two feet forward wasnt enough and also had a back leg presenting at the same time. Thankfully her huge brother had already come through so she had enough room because that is how she came out!

Thank Goodness deetu you hadn't sold them pregnant like you said, as a beginner I would have panicked in a situation like that & probly lost the doe & babies.

I still can't believe your going to get rid of all your beautiful goats!
These 2 little ones are adorable & you did such a good job!

Dont worry these things dont happen normally. But always be ready to assist if you need to.
The first thing is to not panic. If you are a praying person this always helps.
The first time I had to go in I had my breeder on the phone to guide me through. It was my first season.
Have someone or a bunch of someones to call....if you think the doe is in trouble she probably is; make phone calls, get help.

Yea, like goatservant said, it's not the usual. This was the worst and most paniced I've ever been because I couldn't figure out what to do. The praying did help, I felt a calm come over me and I was able to do what needed to be done.
(Openly praying in front of my husband at that)

Frankie & Flossie ... I like that but I think I'm gonna call the boy Rango after part of his father's name, Dorango. And need something really cute for the girl. Who is very curious and already got herself in trouble already today. Both are super friendly. I hate dehorning because it makes them afraid. I already feel the buds (they were late coming out) so I may do them tomorrow.

Qvrfullmidwife, glad you found out about the baby being normal right away. It would have been awful if it died because of a misunderstanding. Glad she is okay.

Glad it worked out well. I am way to glad the kidding year is over and never want to have another one again. Though I know I will and I dread it.
