Question on selling goats

I have some registerable Nubian bucklings that I listed for sale here but my problem is I haven't ever had registered goats and don't know what to sell them for. I don't want to ask too much, but don't want to take too little. I have been looking around online and see so many different prices. What make one worth more... or less? and I am in Texas if it makes any difference.

Also while I am here, we bought these registered Nubian and after getting the papers, found out that two of the kids are also niece and nephew to their dad. Can they be registered?

Thanks

Yes the ones that are niece and nephew to their dad can be registered. We have a buck that we use whose daddy was also his brother, a much closer breeding. (An experiment that seems to work well.)

The value depends less upon the fact that they have paperwork and more on their value in passing along traits that are worth having. We have milkers for the dairy...they are sweet girls, make decent amounts of milk and are, as all of our goats are, ADGA registered. Bucks from this caliber of goat is, frankly, a dime a dozen. If I get $5 for them from someone who wants a wether for brush control of meat that is fine with me, the biggest benefit is a reduction in the workload.

We also have bucks both from our own breeding or that we purchased that I waited years for. The dam will have shown exceptionally well and appraised exceptionally well and has traits that I want to see in my herd. (not just for show but for the dairy as well--good udder attachments, etc) $500 or more isn't uncommon.

All of the above are registered or registerable, purebred. It is the quality that gives value.

I agree. the price has more to do with the actual quality of the animals then whether it is registered. bucks from long lineages of quality animals that have proven themselves in show and production are worth some money.

lots and lots of bucks born out there that are registerable but not neccessarily of much value. if they are not expected to be near perfect due to their parentage then 1$/lb is the price around here.

Like previously stated it depends on the area and timing if your wanting to sell. last yr here could not hardly sell goats tried different local papers untill i hit on craigslist now it seems like we are selling weekly, a couple here and there. selling primarly for pets but like the military dont ask dont tell lol.
