Should I or Shouldn't I?

A friend's father in law has passed away recently, and left behind 5 three year old does, of unkown breeding but they are "big" and floppy eared (thinking nubian, maybe, but I haven't seen them). They are all apparently bottle babies and very friendly. The friend doesn't want them to go to freezer camp or the auction, so I popped into her head. That would bring my goat totals to 9!!! He had a closed herd, so I'm not real worried about disease. How would older established does fit in with 3 six month old pygmys and one 1 year old wether? Or, another possibility, my moms in law has one older doe, maybe 5 or six, who is all by herself up there. Would SHE accept another doe?

Good idea for moms in law's goat to have 1 or 2 doe's to keep her's company! They should never be alone & as far as you adding them to your young small herd. It can be done but I always do it a little at a time each day & work them together or pasture them together so they have nmore room & let them run together, then they can get away from each other if needed.
What a good friend you are to want to help her.

I would go take a look and see what you think...Go with your gut. How long has your MIL's goat been an only goat?

She's been alone since she was a baby. I am pretty sure FIL won't go for it (mother in law has MS and FIL takes care of her goat since she can't). So if I do this, I might be stuck with all of them...we do want to help out our friends, but I like my little goat family...*sigh. Oh well, everything changes, yes?

any time you add new members to the herd there will be social chainges, and yes in the goat world social chainges can look pretty sevear to OUR eyes, but goats are NOT people and they will sort it out,

i would go look at the animals and if they look good to you and you have the room for them if it were me i would get them, but thats me
