CAE goat milk?

I posted before that I'm considering getting two goats when I move to my new place.... I would mainly want them for milking, for myself and for my dogs to drink.

Here's my question: is it safe for humans and dogs to drink CAE positive milk? I'm guessing the disease isn't zoonotic, otherwise the government would be regulating it more tightly but I wanted to check.

I've heard that is safe...

But... you don't want to own a CAE positive goat-- it's not fair to them or to you. Find a clean doe, which are just as affordable, and save yourself some heartache and vet bills JMO

Of course, I'm going to aim for CAE free! But I've heard so many stories of people getting goats from what is supposed to be a "CAE-Free Herd" and finding out months later that the goat they purchased did, in fact, have CAE.

If I find out that my dogs and I have been drinking CAE-positive milk for months without knowing it, well, I'd like to know that its not going to harm us......

Ah, ok, thanks for the clarification Everything I've read suggests that it can't be transmitted to anyone but other goats...

It's safe for humans and dogs to drink, but is it worth it financially the health problems(chronic mastitis, hard bag, wasting away while eating well more than your average cae-free doe, debilitating arthritis in your young 1-2 year old milker, speaking from my own horrible experience), or the emotional ones of shooting the doe after bonding?

I know of some people who like to save goats, but stay away from cae/cl positive ones since they couldn't bring themselves to do what's right when the time would come. The ones that didn't (do what's right) ended up getting fined for animal abuse.

IMHO, You'd save more money if you bought healthy does than a cheap sick doe.

edit to add, we must have been typing at the same time. Glad to hear you didn't buy it on purpose for a deal or what not, but a shame you have it. Your safe to drink it though. ditto what issylthesthlia said.
