Showing for wether and five year old son?

This is purely for fun/for my darling son's personality. He's really intense and it would be nice to get his confidence up and give him something to focus on. He's an incredible boy and we've been talking about a specific buck I may get for my girls, to wether later in the year (he's young too right now, only about 6 weeks old) so that he could show him.

Is there anyway for a soon to be five year old to start showing? Would the goat need to be fantastic/purebred? The goat we're looking at has papers, but is half ND half pygmy. The whole concept of showing a goat is new to me, so any info is welcome.

Anything I should know before I jump into this? We're also considering selling the buckling when his use for us is over...

I believe this is a wonderful idea. At age 5 he will need lots of support from you. Contact your local 4-H and see what the requirements are. Our goats have REALLY enlightened the whole life of the family. Good luck!

They have to be eight to show in 4h and then they only show market goats (at least half boer), or dairy goats. Cloverbuds can do a miniture goat project but I don't think they show them, it would depend on how your county runs the program. Cloverbuds are for 5-8. Not everywhere has cloverbud programs.
